Dr Peter Blair, who advises the Baby Friendly Initiative on evidence and research methodology relating to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and its relationship to mother-infant bed-sharing and infant feeding, was made an Honorary Fellow of UNICEF UK at the organisation’s AGM last week.

Lord David Puttnam, the outgoing President of UNICEF UK who presented the award, said “Peter is one of the world’s leading researchers into Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and his work is recognised as being of exceptional quality, in what can be an emotive and highly controversial field.”

“This has helped ensure that more parents get useful and balanced information and are helped and supported to breastfeed successfully.”

Peter Blair said "I feel honoured to be associated with such a respected organisation. Any advice we give to parents needs to be evidence-based. I hope my work with UNICEF helps identify the specific risks involved with co-sleeping and gives parents a more informed choice of what might be best for their baby."

An interview with Peter Blair will be published in the next Baby Friendly Initiative Newsletter.
