New study shows breastfeeding lowers risk of heart disease     News item 22 April 2009

A new study has found that women who breastfeed are 10% less likely to develop heart disease or suffer from strokes or heart attacks than those who never breastfed.

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh analyzed data on around 140,000 post-menopausal women who had given birth. It shows that breastfeeding for a month may cut the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
